Confluent has appointed Stephen Deasy as Chief Technology Officer.
Stephen Deasy will be responsible for guiding Confluent's approach to building and scaling its data streaming platform. In his new role, he will lead the engineering team's vision, strategy, and daily execution, with an emphasis on expanding the platform's capacity to support artificial intelligence and real-time intelligence applications across global markets.
Deasy has accumulated over two decades of experience in engineering leadership at high-growth software companies. Before joining Confluent, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Benchling, where he assembled and led the company's global product and platform engineering teams. Prior to this, Deasy oversaw engineering operations for Jira, Confluence, Trello, and the cloud platform at Atlassian. His earlier roles include leadership positions at VMware, EMC, and Groupon.
Deasy is recognised for his technical acumen, having been granted multiple patents and invested in early-stage technology companies. His career has focused on developing and scaling platforms that serve the demanding needs of large-scale organisations.
Leadership perspective
"Stephen brings a wealth of experience scaling engineering teams and building platforms that power the world's most demanding systems," said Jay Kreps, co-founder and CEO at Confluent. "With his leadership, we'll move even faster to help customers turn data streams into a foundation for AI, smarter decisions, and entirely new classes of real-time applications."
As Chief Technology Officer, Deasy's remit will include strengthening Confluent's core infrastructure to enable organisations to create and deploy real-time solutions more efficiently. The company intends to further support use cases such as agentic AI, hyper-personalised customer experiences, and automated business operations through Deasy's leadership of the engineering team.
On his new appointment, Deasy commented on both the potential of the data streaming sector and his ambitions in the CTO role.
"Confluent is defining what's possible with streaming data, and I'm excited to be part of that journey," said Stephen Deasy. "I've seen firsthand how real-time data can transform businesses. Now, I get to work with the best in the field to make this powerful technology easier to adopt and more impactful for every organisation."
Platform focus
Confluent's platform is designed to facilitate streaming data flows across organisations, providing a foundation for real-time data movement and analysis. The company aims to support businesses in delivering digital customer experiences and refining operations with real-time, software-driven processes.
The appointment of Deasy reflects Confluent's emphasis on building a platform that meets the requirements of organisations looking to operate with up-to-the-minute data across various functions. His task will be to steer the platform's development to keep pace with ongoing advancements in data-driven intelligence and AI capabilities, while ensuring reliability and scalability for global clients.
Confluent's offering centres on enabling organisations to collect, process, and integrate real-time data across disparate systems, positioning itself as an essential component in digital transformation initiatives. With Deasy at the helm of technology strategy, the company signalled its intent to accelerate these efforts and respond to growing demand for robust data streaming infrastructure.
